Create Lifelong Friendships at Camp

An excellent way for kids to spend their summer break is at summer camp. It is not only a fun and exciting experience, but it also has many advantages for their development.

Summer camp is an excellent place for children to make new friends. Meeting and interacting with others from different backgrounds and cultures can help develop social skills and understand diversity. Camp can be great, especially for children who might struggle to make friends in school. The friendships formed at camp, this summer could last a lifetime.

Camp Abegweit offers a variety of activities and programs that could help kids discover new interests and skills. We are sure your child will find something they enjoy, whether it’s swimming, nature hikes, arts & crafts, or sports.

“Leadership in Action: The CIT Program’s Role in Youth Development”

The Counselor in Training Program (CIT) provides youth aged 14 and older with a unique opportunity to develop essential essential skills such as leadership, communication, team work, and confidence. Through hands-on experience and training, participants enhance their personal growth and gain valuable insights into the responsibilities and challenges associated with working at a camp.

Leadership Development: CITs learn to effectively guide and mentor younger campers, organize activities, and assist camp staff in various capacities. This experience fosters confidence and cultivates essential leadership skills applicable across multiple life aspects.

Communication Skills: Effective communication is a cornerstone of the CIT Program. Participants learn how to communicate clearly and respectfully with campers, fellow counselors, and camp administrators. They also develop strong interpersonal skills, including active listening, conflict resolution, and public speaking, which are invaluable in both personal and professional settings.

Hands-on Experience: The program offers hands-on experience in a camp setting, allowing participants to immerse themselves in the day-to-day operations of camp life. From organizing recreational activities to assisting with meal preparation and cabin supervision, CITs gain practical experience, preparing them for future camp counselor roles.

If you or someone you know is intersted, apply today by visiting: https://campabby.ca/cit.

Sending your child to camp? Manage your worries

“According to researchers, children may observe and mimic parents’ discussion of worries. And when parents frequently provide verbal warnings, for example, “be careful,” children may anticipate danger and fear certain situations. Kids that had less of a say in whether or not they’d be attending summer camp, also demonstrated higher separation anxiety.”

Why All Teenagers Need Non-Parent Mentors

“A youth mentor is interested in your success, not just in school, but in life. They encourage you to find your own answers rather than telling you what to do. They listen intently. They are advocates for your well-being. They see, hear, and understand you in a way that others may not. In turn, this helps you learn about and believe in yourself!”
